Let the Healing Begin

I still feel as though I have a lot of pent up resentment and frustration regarding the circumstances and events of the past 8-years, but last nights Obama victory in the presidential election goes a long way to initiating the healing.

During the next three-months W. will be packing his bags as will many of his partners in crime on Capital Hill, and its important that he, we, and the world know how disappointing and destructive that this Administration was to all of us. Let us never forget it!

The lies, the fear tactics, the human rights violations against humanity and our own people, the attacks against our rights and Constitutional freedoms, and all the innocent people killed in their wars. Let us not forget!

I try to imagine how a fallen George W must feel occupying a lame duck White House knowing that he is on his way out considered quite possibly the worst President in U.S. history. Being a man who I believe is infinitely more concerned with his legacy than he ever was about doing anything noble, I am expecting him to be beside himself with grief due to the way the tides have turned against him. It makes me wonder if he is a tortured soul, as I'm sure probably are the brilliantly evil masterminds behind his legacy, the Cheney's, Wolfawitz's, Rumsfeld's, etc. The compassionate being within me is relieved knowing that Bush is like a puppy that knows that it's done something wrong, but it has no idea what that is. Then there is the vindictive side within me which wants everyone responsible for his Presidency to be held accountable: my former idea was that all those who voted for Bush in the former 2 elections should be ineligible to cast a vote in this election. Too late, not necessary.

America, the government is now heading into a transition: the transition of putting the government back into the hands of the people, less governed by Corporations and the filthy rich, and a self-serving special interest government. America, this truly is a time of hope (just as are all transitions of government -- I bet you felt a sense of hope 8-years ago) so lets hope and dream and act together. Many of us behind our new leadership would like nothing better than to turn our backs on any former Bush supporters -- WE TOLD YOU SO! -- but doing this would only do our mission and our country disservice.

It's time to take those chintzy American flags off of your lapels and tear off that bumber sticker from your car, and start thinking like an American: we are in this together. Those American flags only sought to tear this country apart separated not by who was patriotic or not, but by who supported the regime in the White House. Ironically, an American flag DIVIDED Americans as Americans instead of truly celebrating what this country is all about. Lose those symbols, for now, and lets unite as a diverse people who need each other in all our diversity.

Hopefully I'll take a few more moments of inspiration to banter against the on-the-outs Administration because during the past few years I have been remarkably silent and have been denying what is afforded me as a Right in this great Nation: the Right, and the duty, to speak out and so participate in Democracy.
