Halfway to Chiwawa-100

i did it again. i listed to my ego instead of my subconscious, more rational mind. last week as i skied a 35-mile out-and-back through the Chiwawa Valley i told myself how dangerous this ski is for me b/c of the temptation to ski to roads end: Trinity. thats what i did yesterday. 1-hour into my ski i felt fine, so why not just keep going, but i failed to consider the entire journey would take at least 4-hrs. and like some kind of fool i decided to up the ante from 44 to 50-miles just so i could say i did it. its halfway to my big idea of an organized Chiwawa-100 miler. yeah, 100-miles! we're nordic skiers but we're americans, for godsake. it took me 5-hours, RV door to RV door.

and it hurt. that extra 6-miles was pure agony on achy feet and shakey legs. the route was never fresh groomers except one pocket of love that i found at rock creek campground: it was about 1-k of untouched courderoy that felt like floating... made me remember what i was missing out on. for the remaining 49.9-miles it was tracked-out snow from a big weekend snowmobilers.

today i'm into Der-Town to do some things, see some peeps, and maybe night ski at Ski Hill. its lit daily until 11pm and i've yet to partake in the fun. at least every other day for the past two-weeks i've night skied after work at stevens pass nordic and the past 3-times i did it w/o a headlamp: QUE BELLA LUNA! the unfull moon is still so bright and phat that i can ski by moonlight. amazing! this thursday is the scheduled full-moon ski in Leavenworth but b/c of a lack of snow we might move it on up to our place at SPNC. we'd pull the campfire pit on skis up to Guthrie Loop and whoop it up!

get out there and howl!
